HAPPINESS AND HEALTH.

Happiness and Health.
Happiness is the pleasant emotions and moods that people experience, and it is really the only aspect of a person’s life with any ultimate value. Anything that brings pleasure, peace, or we enjoy doing will indeed make people happier which is a major contribution towards a person’s health. Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, peace and joy and is the key factor that can prevent people from becoming depressed or stressful. Depression, also known as depressive disorder is a serious medical condition that can impact the way people feels and act towards each other. A person who is very unhappy can become depressed. Depression causes many physical effects which are displayed on a person’s body in many different ways which is very unhealthy for them. A happier person is healthier, and will live longer than another person who is depressed. A person growing body with evidences of happiness suggest that being happier can actually make him/her live longer. Mallika Chopra studied 180 nuns in Milwaukee and revealed that “joyful nuns tend to live longer than their gloomy counterparts. Two – thirds of somber – minded sisters in the study died before their 85th birthday, while on an average the happy ones lived 9 years longer.” However, there are a few ways in which people can relieve their stress or depression, such as the practicing of yoga and meditation, and having happy and positive state of mind.
Depression affects both a person’s mind and body, causing behavioral, emotional and physical symptoms that may cause some serious consequences. Depression sufferers tend to feel hopeless, like nothing will ever get better. Stress causes people to become mentally ill, and it can really affect their immune system. Headache is a very common symptom of depression. An individual that is depressed and suffers from headaches will experience it frequently and very intense, as a result of this condition. Many people who suffer from depression find that it affects their sleeping patterns, such as difficulty in sleeping, or little amount of sleep, getting up frequently, or getting up earlier than usual. Some people cannot find the courage to even get up and face reality. Many people are unable to gain pleasure that normally would be pleasurable when they are depressed. They even feel restless, tense, tired all the time or having no energy. It also causes many people to lose their appetites, which is a result to major weight loss. However, some people would increase with their appetites and this will cause them to gain a lot of weight which leads to more depression. Depression is a very dangerous mental disorder and can put people in a position of great discomfort while their thinking levels become more and more negative. Almost every day there is an article in the news paper about suicidal attempts or suicidal cases which is caused by depression. Getting deeper into negative thinking always lead to deeper depression and lose of control over a person’s life. It is a chronic illness which thousands of American children and adults experienced daily and may last for months. Depression lead many people to commit suicide because they can’t handle the state of depression, and is one of the leading death rates in the U.S.A. An analysis researched of depression suicides across in the U.S.A proves that “It is the principal cause of 30,000 suicides in the U.S. each year. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death, third amount individuals 15-24” It could be because of a specific, distressing life event, or a psychological factor, like a negative view of life, etc. They could be very unhappy due to relationship problems, sicknesses, or financial issues, etc. Depression could also be dangerous to those people who have medical issues. It frequently co-occurs with a variety of medical illness, such as heart disease, blood pressure, cancer, and chronic pain and is associated with poorer health status. However, people can be able to overcome all these pain and depression by having a positive state of mind, and the practicing of yoga and meditation.
People can override anything and be happy in any terrible situation by having that positive state of mind, and the practicing of yoga and meditation. These are three important aspects to decrease stress and improve happiness in a person’s life. A positive state of mind or thinking is guidance to a healthier and happier life. If a person thinks and do things positively, they would be able to get through any difficult decisions or situations. However, it’s all base on a person’s mind to be positive when making their own decisions. Happiness is the state of mind and the mind rules the body. Harry Olson said “If you decide to be healthy, hopeful, and fun-loving, that’s what you’ll be.” (83). This is saying, with the right or positive attitude, people have the ability to make things better. A positive state of mind will avoid people from getting depressed. Yoga offers excellent postures, exercises and positions which relaxes the body and releases any stress, tension or pain. The practicing of yoga and meditation is an excellent choice to free a person’s body and mind from depression, and the gaining of pleasures and happiness. It provides a great form of energy and helps to get a healthier immune system. It plays an important role towards improving people’s health. It is known to be a physical and mental therapy. A regular yoga practice can help in weight management. It provides relief to needed joints and pains to any part of a person’s body. There is also the laughing yoga. This type of yoga is a major contribution toward people’s anger and stress management. It takes a person mind away from all the negativities that may be on his mind causing sings of unhappiness. It changes a person who is in a miserable mood into a happy and pleasant mood. It erases all pains, sufferings, and any negative thoughts or concerns from people who practice it. Madan Lal Kataria believes, “that true mindful laughter can have a liberating, transformative effect – one that momentarily erases all practical concerns, fears, needs and even notions of time, and provides a glimpse into spiritual enlightenment”. (81). This is definitely true because of my own experienced. My ENG-101 teacher made myself and the entire class practiced it once in the classroom. At first I felt a little awkward because it was the first time and many people were around. However, I decided to try it at home a few days later because I was a little depressed. I laughed about four minutes and was amazed by the results. I felt very relaxed, the tension wasn’t there anymore and I felt as though a heavy weight was lifted off my shoulders. From that day on, I promised myself to practice it whenever I am feeling unhappy, angry or stressed. Charles Schaefer noted that “adults who act happy (broad smile; heartily smile) for a minute a day are likely to elevate their mood.” (81). These are indeed clear facts that happiness in people’s lives can actually make them live longer.
The less depressed people are in their lives, or if they have a positive state of mind and practice yoga and meditation are evidence of great aspects of happiness to expand their lives. The practicing of yoga and meditation helps to boost a person immune system, which will help the people to be healthier and live a longer live with pleasures. They will be able to function properly. Ruut Veenhoven said “the effects of happiness on longevity were comparable to that of smoking or not”. He is saying that it doesn’t matter if a person smoke or not, but they are happy they tends to live longer. The special flair of feeling good and happy can lengthen people’s lives. If people have a positive attitude in live, if they know they can make any situation better and have no negative emotions then the body will survive longer.

Gratitude.

Gratitude. Things that we are grateful for.
We should always be grateful or give gratitude to the things that gives meaning in our lives. Rather than being upset or complaining about all the bad and negative things that we encounter, or the things which cause us to be unhappy. We should take a few minutes in our tough time and make a list of the things that we are grateful for.
I am grateful to come this far in my life, like making it to college. I am happy and grateful for my family who loves and support me through my rough time. I am grateful for having a husband who understands, have patience, support me in every way with my college and who loves and cares me. I am grateful for having a job which I enjoyed, and the manager and supervisors who supports me with my time for school. Most importantly, I am grateful to the god that I worship because I feel that they are responsible for all my success, guidance, advice, positive attitudes, and safety and for bringing me this far in life.
Whenever, I am facing all the negativity in life, I would just think about the things that I am grateful for. This always rescues me from my bad and negative moments.

Relationship and Happiness. Marriage.

Relationship and Happiness. Marriage.
Relationships are key elements of happiness in people’s lives, but they are the ones who should cultivate it into a healthy growth. The people nearest to us, such as spouses, parents and children are usually the source of our deepest anxieties, fears, unhappiness or pains. As well as, there is absolutely no dough they are full of joy, happiness, love, support, affirmation, comfort and guidance. Why do people get married, even though they are aware that it is definitely not a smooth or an easy path? Well, the most famous answer to that is because they are in love with each other and cannot imagine being apart. They feel happy, worthwhile, and peaceful and receive pleasure being together. Also, marriage fills that empty gap of loneliness in their lives. Marriage is supposed to be a lifelong contract or commitment in a couple’s life. However, I believe that married people have to work really hard to maintain and harvest a healthy, happy and loving relationship. They should spend enough time together and even give each other some space when it is necessary. In order for a couple to maintain a healthy and happy relationship, they would have to learn to be patient, understanding, tolerant, honest and have good communication and cooperation among each other. They shuold even be grateful to each other for the pleasant things that they have experienced together.
Marriage gives more meaning to our lives, and it is the essence to fill the empty gap of loneliness which we encounter in life. Having someone who deeply cares about us would make us feel loved and comfortable which is a warm breath of happiness. The ability to love someone and receive love in return is an extraordinarily happy and pleasurable feeling in a marriage. It is an open gate for the most memorable and exciting moments anyone could experience, such as intimate moments. In the path of starting and striving to build a life together even the experiences of loving and caring for each other may give us some beautiful memories to always cherish. Tal Ben Shahar has mentioned in his article “Happiness in Relationship”, “Having people about whom we care and who care about us to share our lives – intensifies our experience of meaning, consoles us in our pain, deepens our sense of delight in the world.” (111). Everyone on earth has someone in their lives that keeps them going and make their life worth living for, or give meaning to it. A companionship in our life is one of the best therapies for happiness in our daily lives. The fact of having someone who loves and cares for you, supports you through your difficult times, who puts joy in your life whenever you are feeling down. Also, someone to experience and share the good and bad events with in our lives are the best things we can ever have. The companionship in a marriage gives people the opportunities to fulfill all their lonely time in life and someone by our side to grow old with. Being married gives us the opportunity to have someone who we can talk and listen to, or have all kinds of conversation and be able to share ideas with each other. Companionship in marriage also offers support and can be particularly important at times of trouble and stress. Marriage helps us to be more tolerant, unselfish, caring and loving.
I believe that marriages are supposed to be a relationship of a lifelong contract or commitment in people’s lives, and they have to work very hard to maintain that love and passion for each other during that period of time. When couples lose that interest for each other, means they are heading towards a failure in their marriage which would cause them to be extremely stressful and unhappy. Almost every married couple who are deeply in love would eventually lose the passion for each other and that is when a distance would come between them. This is the state where the passion and love for each other are no longer exciting, which cause a marriage to fall into the category of becoming a failure. This is a very unhappy and uncomfortable state to be in. I believe that one of the main reasons why couples get into this category is because they are not spending quality time with each other. There is no longer any good communication and they let other things, such as work or outdoor activities, become a major distraction in between them. They get so occupied with present activities or career that they don’t even realize that their relationship is at risk of becoming a failure. Tal Ben Shahar states, “While it is sometime necessary to forgo present benefit for the sake of failure goals, spending too much time living for the future will ultimately leads to the relationship’s failure.” (116). This explains the couples who spend too much time working and are abandoning the time for each other, hoping to ensure a secure and happy future. This is when they are putting the relationship into a major risk for becoming a failure. This is very unhealthy in a marriage because the couple would get into a trap of wanting more out of their career and barely any time for each other. A married couple can prevent getting into this situation by putting each other as a first priority. They should always make time for each other and spend enough quality time together. This will save the marriage and helps to maintain happiness in a couple’s relationship.
In a marriage, a couple can truly increase their happiness by being patient, tolerant, understanding, honest, supportive, grateful and have a good communication and cooperation among each other. A married couple will definitely be comfortable and happy being together if their marriage has these elements. Married couples will prosper if they have good understanding from each other. They should be able to understand each other whenever they are facing a difficult time or situation, or may need something which may not be the right moment for you. For example, if one spouse needs a night out with friends, or would like to do something different than usual, we should be able to understand and support our spouse in time like this. If couples do not support each other in situations like this, then they would become upset with each other which will cause many problems in a marriage. Supporting your partner during difficult times would help the relationship to become more loving and stronger. Married couples would feel happiest in their relationship if they support each other with their goals and dreams. They would feel very pleased and proud to have their partner helping them to achieve their own personal goal. Tolerance and patience are also considered as some important ingredients for a happier and successful married life. Tolerating and having patience for good or bad habits would only help to build and enhance a good better relationship. I believe that honesty is a key goal to keep a marriage together and is a strong foundation to build a happier relationship. For instance, my worst nightmare in my marriage is when my husband is hiding something from me which is important or necessary for me to know. The worst part of it is when I have to find out for myself, because I would feel much better if he could be the one to tell me. This would cause many problems in our marriage and both of us would be very unhappy. This would normally make him feel guiltier and he would end up being the one who is hurt the most. A couple should not let their past or current difficulties, or the bad incidents and problems get in between their healthy relationships. If they focus on the meaningful and pleasurable memories in their past or the present experiences, it will rescue them from all those negative emotional feeling which they may be developing in their thoughts. Relationship expert Jon Gottman is able to predict, “If partners focus on the happy aspects of their time together, if they remember the past fondly, the relationship is much more likely to thrives.” ( qtd. In Ben – Shahar 122). He is saying that if couples or any relationships focus on the happy and exciting memories or events from their past or in the present, they will indeed harvest a healthy and loving relationship. They would be able to get over the bad moments easier. We should also be grateful to our partner for all the good things they have done for us, rather than always thinking about the negative aspects that we had encountered. Whenever you are angry with your spouse, you should make a list of all the things that you love about them and the adorable things they have done for you in the marriage. Whenever times get tough, we should just remember the list and this will be a major contribution to help remind us of the positive, not the negative side of the marriage. The hard time keeps us from taking pleasure for granted and it helps to make a marriage stronger. In an article entitled “ Happiness Explained” by Tal Ben – Shahar who believes that, the difficult times and arguments in our lives remind us to be grateful for all the large and small pleasure in our lives. Being grateful in this way can itself be a source of real meaning and pleasure. (44). This is indeed a clear explanation of how gratitude can increase our happiness in a marriage. During our miserable or difficult times we should take a moment and think about what our life would be without them? I’m sure if we compare all the things we are grateful for from our spouse, will overcome the bad events that we had encountered. Everyone knows that communication and cooperation is a key to any relationship especially when it is someone who you have to commit yourself to each day. Couples should take a few minutes each day to explain their plans for the day and at the end of the day share their experiences. This will prevent couples from getting into any miscommunication among each other.
Marriage has a stabilizing influence upon people, resulting in less stress and more opportunities to relieve stress and gain pleasure. Marriage may have its rough path, but it is one of the greatest solutions for the stress and loneliness in people’s lives. There is no dough that everyone wants to get married or is thinking about a future with a spouse in their lives. I believe that hard work and determination are the keys to success; therefore we should quote this phrase through the tough times in our married lives. It gives us the opportunity of companionship to grow old with someone by our side, because even though we might have children they would eventually begin their own separate lives. I believe that the bad and difficult times are the ones that make the relationship stronger because it make us realize how much we care and love each other. At the end of the day, I am very pleased and happy that I have a husband in my life to go home to. And, I am sure that everyone who really loves their spouse feels the same way.

Money and Happiness.

Omadai Rajahlall
Dr. McCormick
ENG 101
Midterm
Money and happiness are two important aspects or common desires in a person’s life. However, there is an odd relationship between these two aspects. Many people believe that money leads to happiness and not understanding how happiness is not always a result or cause of money. In most cases, money is the key goal of a person’s effort to attain happiness, but people should remind themselves that the path to the goal is as important as the goal itself. In the path of working towards achieving a goal for having an income gives more meaning in a person’s life. Money is the key to help people achieve their life’s purpose and support to the things they care about most deeply, such as family, education, healthcare and adventure. However, money is not the meaning to everything in life. For instance, its value and purpose cannot bring us the greatest happiness in life. In addition, money has its disadvantages and advantages in a lot of rich people’s lives and a few in a poor or middle class people’s lives. Many people would even quit a job which earns a large amount of income to go work for another employer that makes a lower income because they are happier there.
Working and achieving a goal in mind gives people the motivation, energy and positive spirit for all the critical ingredients for happiness. The steps and procedures toward working for achieving a presentable income is the essence to a person’s happiness. In that path, they can earn the greatest experience and memory a person could ever have, which they might cherish forever. They will get to interact and communicate with many different people who may appreciate them for whoever they are. They are able to meet people who will always be a part of their lives, which will give more meaning to their lives. They would be able to experience and adopt many things in their lives such as, learning different things from others, many outdoor activities, etc. People would get familiar with the goal they are trying to achieve and even figure out if it’s the goal they really wanted in life. A person who does not have to work because they inherited or invested a large amount of money will lose the chance or benefit to work for it. People in this category may not know what to do with their money because they get things too easily in life. This will cause them to be unhappy and they are indeed missing out the true meaning of earning money. They are missing out a major and one of the happiest parts of their lives by not working towards achieving an income.
Even though money gives more meaning in people’s lives, it is really not the meaning to everything in life. Money cannot bring people the greatest happiness in life because there are many people who work for a large amount of money and are as miserable and unhappy as anybody else. A number of people would leave or quit a job which makes a large amount of income to go work for another organization that makes a lower income. This is because they are unhappy or uncomfortable with a specific job, or it’s not in their field of interest. However, they prefer working for another organization that pays a lower salary because they are happier, or something in which they have an interest for. In addition, they may prefer working in the field because they find that it give more meaning in their lives. All the people who believe that a large amount of income will maximize their happiness, then just look at the reality where there are plenty of people who seem to have very little money and lots of happiness. In addition, Carl Richards states, “If people believe that happiness can be reduce to a functional equation up to $75,000, then how do we explain all those stories of people around the world with very little money and a whole lot of happiness?” This is clearly saying that even though a lot people might make a lower income, they are happy, pleased and satisfied with their lives as much as those people with a higher income are.
Money has many advantages and disadvantages in a rich person’s life, and a few in poor or middle class people’s lives. There are many clear example and evidence of plenty rich people who are very lonely in their lives because they cannot find the right person to love or a true friend. They have the feeling that these people only appreciate them because of their wealth. Besides, it is crystal clear that relationship is a key element of happiness in a person’s life. The rich people have to take extra care of more assets, potentially raising the feeling of the risk of losing it again. The rich people even fear from the risk of getting rob, which may even cause them to lose their lives. For instance, as Bible 1 by Timothy states, “the root of money is the root of all evil” 6:10. This is clearly explaining the evil, bad and cruel things that people can do for money. However the rich people have a better freedom of independence by having whatever they want or need, that money can buy. They also have the capability to do well with their money by helping organizations for the poor or charities. Many poor people might have to work very hard to provide for themselves or their families. They do not have the freedom to buy whatever they want or need as much as they want to. Many of them would normally get trapped into just working long hours and making more money, while the time for happiness, enjoyment and pleasure are wasted. Claudian states, “The rat racer, subordinating the present to the future, suffers now for the purpose of some anticipated gain.”(qtd. In Ben – Shahar 14). This is when people are sacrificing themselves into more hard work, with the hopes of future happiness. As a result, many of the poor people would get into the uncontrollable habit of becoming more dedicated and involved with making more money. Meanwhile, they fail to realize that they are missing out a big and meaningful part of happiness in their lives. Also, poor people have an anxiety of wanting items which they may not have the capability to afford. However, they are happy and comfortable with their lives as much as the rich people do, or even happier. They don’t have the insecure feeling of people appreciating them for what they have. They also have the capability and advantage to save and spend their money more wisely than a rich person does. A rich person will buy an item and get tired of it quickly because they can find a replacement very easily. Likewise, a poor person will be happier with the same item and will cherish it for a long time. The poor people find that a daily routine is very meaningful in their live which adds up to more happiness. While the rich people will become depressed or unhappy for getting things too easily, and the fact that they are really missing out an important and happy part of their lives by not working at a daily job for a salary.
The relationship between money and happiness have made many people realized what is more important in a person’s life. Indeed, money is the essence for an easier or better life and to support the things people care most deeply for, but at the end of the day is all about how happy a person is with their lives. It doesn’t matter how poor a person is, all that matters is that they are happy with their lives. Happiness is the healthiest growth in a human being life and is something everyone on earth seeks. Not everything is about money.

Happiness and Work.
Working is one of the most important aspects that contribute towards my happiness. Working is the main reason for all my development in life. The word ‘work’ itself sounds like something that is difficult and not fun, but I think it is up to us to make it fun and something that is positive in our life because it is. It adds meaning to our life. In every job there are difficulties and problems, but these things are responsible for making us stronger. However, I am very comfortable and satisfied with my work and enjoyed it a lot. I worked at the airport and customer service is an important part of my job description. There are many reasons why I enjoyed my work and why I find it interesting and fun. These things help me to be a happier person.
My work is the main contribution for me to work towards achieving my goals and provides me with a presentable income at the end of the week. My dream job is to become a registered nurse, and working has been the greatest support towards that. My managers have also been very supportive and understanding by giving me the time to go to school. My weekly salary helps with most of my financial needs and provides for me and my family. Work has been an amazing experience; it is a feeling of being independent and responsible. It prepares me to become some better. I believed that my work is a good therapy which helps to keep my mind occupied from any worries or stress. It also keeps me very active and I see it as a form of exercise. I make happiness a priority at my work because it makes my job more fun, which makes my life happier. In addition, I enjoyed the communication and socialization with the passengers from different part of this world. Almost every day I would learn something new from these passengers. I have learned how to judge someone’s personality easily, or what kind of mood they are in by dealing with them daily. This is something I find interesting and I enjoyed, I also learned very well how to handle a difficult person because I deal with these situations every day. Working prevents me from getting into activities that are not productive and helps my day to get by easier and faster.
Working gives meaning, purpose and fulfillment to my life. Happiness is something everyone seeks, and my job is a main and an important reason for bringing more happiness in my life. It increases the quality of my life. Without a job my life would be meaningless, unhappy and depressing. Work and happiness is the essence for making my life worthwhile.

How i can increase my own happiness in education.

Numerous People who studies would normally complain that education is very difficult, boring and there is no fun in it. As a current college student, I personally believed that this is not the case. I believed that people let their negative emotional feeling get to them, and this causes them to get carried away with the wrong ideas and thoughts. I am a hundred percent positive that every student has a motivation to increase their happiness in education. For instance, I have many good and important reasons why education contributes toward the increasing of happiness in my life. For example, there are major improvements of my creativity and development with my intellectual skills, the communication and socialization with my fellow classmates is an amazing experience. I also enjoyed the challenges and struggles that I faced in my education towards achieving my goals, and I have a few habits and styles of my own which contribute towards my learning.
The numerous evidences of becoming wiser with my creativity have proven how intellectual I have become. What would this world be without creativity? Creativity is a very important aspect in our lives because it proves our intelligence of how brilliant we can be, creating new and beneficial ideas. Ken Robinson states, “Creativity is as important in Education as Literacy” He is saying that creativity is as important in education as the ability to read and write. It expands our knowledge to become someone better. This is a very important reason why I am satisfied and happy with my education. A typical example is before I had started college, I had difficulties with my English and had a tendency to struggle and find the right words whenever someone asked a question at my work. I worked at the airport as a customer service representative, and I would find it very embarrassing whenever I’m in a situation like this. However, ever since I started college my education has brought me nothing more but happiness and pleasure to notice how much easier and faster I am able to respond to a question. I have shown a tremendous improvement with my English and how to answer a question in a more knowledgeable and smarter way. Now I am able to provide a better customer service to passengers like I really should. Many times my colleagues at work would complement me for my improvement in creating new and smart ideas, and how intelligent I have become. In addition, I have invented many new ideas and procedures at work, such as a better employee schedule, forms for our daily use, filing and applying ourselves more efficiently to a position. I have even become wiser with the activities in my personal life, like I can budget my income more efficiently and wisely and I made new rules and ideas in my home which has shown great improvement. Everyone who knows me has noticed the intellectual in me. It’s amazing to see how I am able to apply myself in a difficult situation, argument, or in creating new ideas. I feel very proud, happy and satisfied of my performance at school, work and home. My education is the main reason for contributing towards my happiness. The increase of improvement and happiness in my life has only caused me to be more motivated and encouraged towards my education. Education is responsible for all my developing ideas that are unique, useful and worthy for my daily activities.
Another important reason for the increase of happiness in my education is I love and enjoy the communication and socialization with my fellow classmates. This has been an amazing experience, which have been very supporting and encouraging for me to complete my studies. I am enjoying the true freedom of who I am and could be, and sharing myself with other students. I like making new friends and this is a good opportunity for me. Socializing with people from different part of this world has made learning more interesting, fun and worthwhile for me. Almost every day I would learn something, such as different culture, values, habits and customs. Sometimes the teachers would let us work in group, this have helped me to learn more about people, and to understand the different personality of someone and the way they think. It’s amazing to see how many different ideas we can produce whenever we do group work. I think I have a better chance of learning whenever we are working in a group because we are able to think critically to provide a good presentation. In class I feel like I have a voice which is being heard, because teachers and classmates would listen whenever I have a point or anything to say. Most of the time they are supportive and whatever comment they may have is not a problem for me, because I think we are all thinking and learning at the same time. This widens our knowledge and is a major contribution towards our learning. The communicating and socializing with other students and teachers would normally get us involved with something we feel deeply about, such as education, health, religion, etc. This supports the increase of my happiness in education because I am a person who enjoys and is always willing to learn.
The challenges and struggles also contribute towards the increase of happiness in my education because it gives me the opportunity to prepare myself for a good future. According to an article by Mark Van Doren, “Every youth should be made to feel that his happiness and well-doing in life must necessarily rely mainly on himself and the exercise of his own energies, rather than upon the help and patronage of others.” (qtd. In Ben – Shahar 89). From my personal experience I couldn’t agree more because the difficulties that I faced in my studies, homework, researches and hard work is only making me into a better person. It is a feeling of being independent and responsible. I believed that the struggles and challenges prepare me for a better future because I will have to face these difficulties by myself. It’s a feeling of an accomplishment of something big and meaningful for me. My world in education has been a guidance towards being happy, and proud of myself for being someone who can handle challenges and struggles. It supports my happiness in being educated.
I believed that motivation is an important role toward my happiness in education because it is an increasing of incomes. I have a majority of choice for more jobs and the ability to pursue that choice. Education has given me the opportunity to a new promotion and a better salary. It is also a form of inspiration. My friends and families are happy about my performance and have given me great support. This has been a motivation for me to be even happier in education.
In addition, I have a few habits and styles which participate in making me satisfied and happier in my studies. I have a habit of repeatedly moving from my position whenever I am studying and getting something to eat or drink. For some strange reason this has been really supportive because I cannot concentrate no matter what, until I satisfied my needs and wants. After I am done I would become very attentive and can do my work more efficiently. I can study for hours without any more distraction. Also, I cannot type my homework or essay properly if I don’t have any music in my ears. The songs actually helps to concentrate more and even get the work done a lot faster. I am able to correct and find mistakes better under these circumstances. My friend would sometimes make fun of my study styles, but this is a big help and support towards increasing the happiness in education for me.
The path of education might be rough sometimes, but when I put all the positive attitudes and emotions together, I realized that there are more choices of happiness in my education. Education has given more meaning to my life and brought more happiness than I had imagined. It is a lifetime achievement in every ways and forms, and there is no dough about that. Education, hard work and determination are the key to success. The success in our lives is where the happiness comes in.

What is education? Why do we believe that education would make us happier? Education is the key to a successful life, and it gives us a clear heads up for a meaningful life and future. Therefore, this is the reason why people want to earn a degree, so they would be able to accomplish these goals in their life which would make them happier. For instance, whenever you asked someone why they chose to do certain things in their lives, the most famous answer you’re going to get is “because it makes me happy”. No matter what the situation is on this earth, everyone would need and want a job. Education is one of the main guidance to a happier future and a better job. According to an article entitled “Happiness in Education” by Author Mark Van Doren, our best chance for happiness is in education. Doren also states some more important facts about happiness in education which I fully agree and support because of my personal opinions and experiences in my life. In addition, a video by Sir Ken Robinson, who is an Author and a professor of Arts Education, had caught my attention about creativity and education. The article by Doren and the video by Ken Robinson had made me thought about how much happier I am with my education presently, and how I would be in the future. My greatest goal besides having children is to become a nurse.
Doren states “Educators who Support Children in the pursuit of the things that are important to them and, who help children attain flow experiences cultivate this innate love of learning”. Meaning, when having goals, having a clear sense of purpose is necessary when attaining flow. This is a perfect description of what I’m currently experiencing. The support from my parents, teachers and friends has been nothing more but an inspiration and motivation to never give up on my dream job. Unlike some of the influence which I had encountered from people, stating that I can’t get into nursing because it’s very difficult, and I won’t be able to complete. However, my study in nursing has been an extraordinary experience so far, it’s like a hobby for me. Whenever, I read about nursing and hospital or watch television about them I would picture myself in those situations when they are helping and saving people lives. Studying this major may be a difficult journey sometimes, but at the same time I enjoyed and have a lot of interest in it. If I try to picture myself into another field of study, I just know that I would be very uncomfortable because it’s really not what I wanted to do. Achieving a degree in nursing would only bring me joy, happiness and pleasure, and that is exactly what I want. I would be very proud of myself every time I helped a sick or badly injured person, all because I would have the knowledge and ability to do it. It is one of my greatest interests to help people and I think this is a good chance for me. In addition, the challenges and struggles of working and college have given me the opportunities of becoming someone better in the future. It gives me the feeling of independent and being responsible and confidence which prepares me for a good future. Also, it’s a key to a great support for accomplishing my goals, because in the future I will have to handle the challenges, difficulties and struggles by myself.
I have many reasons of my own of how education can make me happier. One of the most important reasons why I believed education would make me happier is, making a difference and proves to be someone better than what people might think. For instance, many people from the society I grew up in believed that men should be the only bread winner. This is a perfect opportunity for me to prove that it doesn’t have to be this way. Two people who are providing together in a family would offer nothing but more support, money and happiness in a home. I know that many people agree with me and that my parents are very proud of me and this makes me feel very happy. I believe that people gained more respect by being educated and people tend to show more respect towards an educated person. Education plays an important form of motivation for a better job and future. It is much easier to find a job with a degree. It gives us the opportunities towards a wider range of choice of becoming employed. A typical example is, when applying for a job an employer would prefer employed a college graduate rather than a non-college graduate. If a company is hiring with more than one position, they would offer the best position to someone with a degree and a better salary. Besides, if I get fired from a job, with a degree it would not be very stressful because I know that I can easily find another job. In fact I would be relief knowing that I have a degree as a backup plan. Unlike someone without a college degree would face a very difficult time, when searching another job. Education helps an individual to become more knowledgeable, wiser, skillful and creative in their present life and for the future. A matter of fact, Sir Ken Robinson states, “Creativity now is as Important in Education as in Literacy.” This is indeed true and I could agree more. Creativity is very important because it proves us of how brilliant we can be, think and have ideas. In reality the creations of technology like, computers, phones, vehicles, etc, has brought us nothing more but happiness, and have made our lives a lot easier. Education is one of the main reasons for such creativity. It guides us towards a better chance of clearer thinking and ideas.
Not only would education be beneficial to me but also the community to make it a better place. The world or community would become a more prosperous, progressive, better and successful place. It will also bring happiness to employers because they will have very smart and knowledgeable people working for them. In addition, I believed education would be a great inspiration for my children in the future. They would have the inspiration to follow their parent footsteps. Also, I’m sure most people who watch the video by Sir Ken and reads the article would agree on their points. There is no dough that whenever these Authors looked back at their work, they feel really proud and happy about themselves. That’s exactly how I would like to be whenever I graduate with my degree in nursing.

Daniel Gilbert is an excellent professor of psychology at Harvard University and he studies happiness. Dr. Gilbert is a social psychologist who is known for his research with Timothy Wilson of the University of Virginia on affective forecasting, with a special emphasis such as the impact bias. They are the first to identify the impact bias. This is when we think about some emotional event, we tend to overestimate how strongly we will feel, how long this will last and other factors that impact us. This applies to both positive and negative events. I couldn’t agree more with these two psychologists. The impact bias is indeed something I had personally experienced under more than one circumstances.
An unforgettable impact bias I had experienced is when I migrated in the United States. I predicted and way overestimated the happiness, pleasure, easy and comfortable life that I would be living. It was one of my wildest dream and, at that time nothing else matter more but for me to move in the U.S. I used to dream of how easily I would be making the US dollars, shopping for all the latest in town and visiting all those beautiful places I saw on television. I would imagine how excited and fun it would be playing in the snow, because I’m from a tropical country. I used to call it the country of many dreams and opportunities. Indeed it is a country of many dreams and opportunities, but presently living here is nothing compared to what I had predicted. It is really not that easy, I have to work very hard and a lot of different and long hours to earn the US dollars. Most of my money disappeared into paying the bills and rent. I can’t afford to do a lot shopping and, it is impossible for me to actually get any time to visit places because I worked numerous hours. The little time that I have is all occupied for school and I have to work very hard to achieve a good grade. The first year I loved the snow but afterwards it was not that much fun anymore. The streets would eventually become very dirty and many people get injured due to the slippery ice. In addition, I have to wear a lot of clothes which I’m not accustomed to do. I had never anticipated and imagined that it would be difficult.
Another incident of an impact bias I would never forget is when I decided to quit my first job. Before quitting the job, I had predicted and over-estimated many negative emotional feelings and thoughts. I thought that I would be in a very deep state of depression, like I wouldn’t be able to eat, sleep or do any fun activities in my life efficiently. It was a feeling as though my life would be meaningless, hopeless and sad. I stressed about how difficult it would be to pay the bills and rent. I even estimated that it would take a long time for me to find another job. I had no other choice but to quit the job because, I was working at a fast food restaurant and my supervisor was very rude and harsh to myself and other employees. It was a very unbearable depressing feeling going to work every day. Especially when my previous job was a respectable one from the country I immigrated from. However, after quitting the job and when it’s time for me to face reality, I realized it was not that bad at all. I felt very relaxed, peaceful and happy at home. I was really not as depressed as I thought, a matter of fact I had enough time to actually figure out what I was going to with the rest of my life. After two weeks I found another job which I enjoyed very much. I began working for a lot more and I even had enough time to go to school.
Although living in the United States is not exactly what I had imagined, it is still worth it to live here. I enjoy living in the U.S a lot even though it’s a lot of hard work. Besides, I believed that hard work and determination is the key to success. Quitting my job turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. It was the new beginning of a new, progressive and prosperous future for me. The impact bias is something myself and everyone that I known had a few experiences of. This is the reason why I agree and support Dr. Daniel Gilbert and Timothy Wilson one hundred percent on their studies and research on happiness, affective forecasting or the impact bias.
